Manor Lake Tucker in Canada

Thank you Vicki for these great pictures of Tucker and for the delightful pictures!

Tucker's first christmas 038

Tucker's first christmas 012

Dear Kim and Mollie,

I have to tell you how much we enjoy Tucker.  He has fit into our family beautifully.  When we set out to find a mild mannered dog we also knew that we wanted a dog with a lot of personality.  Tucker is anything but dull.  He has a very endearing and fun personality and is also very gentle.  We have access to miles of off-leash areas from the back of our property and Tucker just loves going for long walks.  When he meets other dogs his size or smaller he always engages them in play.  Although he is usually a bit apprehensive when he meets someone bigger than he is, he has found some larger dogs that he can really enjoy a good romp with. He came into our lives at the perfect time.  My husband had a major heart attack in June and Tucker has really gotten him going.

Over the Christmas holidays we spent some time at our cottage at Lake Windermere.  It was beautiful because there were skating paths and cross country ski trails made all around the lake.  We skiied on the lake and Tucker had a blast going with us.  Of course there were a lot of other dogs out for him to play with. Everywhere we go people stop and ask what kind of dog he his and where did we get him.  Believe it or not, we’ve even had a few people ask if we dye his coat that color.  His color and coat are just luxurious.  Thankfully, he really loves to be brushed.  He’s a bit of a burr magnet but they always come out very easily.  He is always so gentle with children (what a relief; our first dog wasn’t). One little girl who stopped on the lake with her family had so much fun playing with him and exchanging “high fives”. No matter how excited he is to be playing with other people or dogs, whenever we call him and start to go he makes a bee-line for us immediately.

House training has gone very well with Tucker.  He doesn’t ask to go out but we let him out regularly and he always waits and then always goes on command.  He is always very patient and calm when waiting for anything.  When we prepare his food or when we are getting ready for walks he sits patiently and just watches.

Crate training has worked great.  We don’t use the crate at all during the day but at night Tucker always sleeps in his crate and sometimes, he even retreats to it on his own.  Although lately, he loves to sneak up onto our bed in the evening.  (He’s like a baby; he’s usually done for the day by 8:30.) We ended up getting a collapsible soft sided crate so that it could easily go back and forth to the lake.
Tucker loves his toys and half the fun is digging them out of his toy basket.  Getting him to not chew shoes and toilet paper is still a work in progress.  In the fall he had a great time running and rolling in and sniffing the grass.  But nothing can compare to how much he loves running and jumping through deep snow.  We can hardly wait to get him out to the lake in the summer time and play with him in the water.

Tucker is stealing hearts everywhere we go and we’re always passing your name along.  We are so happy we found Manor Lake!

Thank you, I’m sending some recent pictures of Tucker.  Hope you enjoy them.

Regards,

Vicki, Canada

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I always enjoy browsing over Rachael Ray’s website- she posts fun recipes for people and pets. Thought I would post this recipe for our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle dog/puppy families!

Grrreat Chicken and Rice Cakes with Bacon
Serves 4

maypetrecipe

Note: Always check with your vet about which foods are appropriate for you to share with your pet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
  • Sour cream (people’s portions only)
  • Salsa (people’s portions only)

Preparation

In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil over high heat. Add the rice, lower the heat and simmer until tender, about 15 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl and let cool.

While the rice is cooking, in a medium nonstick skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until crisp, about 5 minutes; drain on paper towels. Finely chop the bacon and add to the cooled rice. Reserve the skillet.

Mix the eggs and bread crumbs into the rice mixture; season with salt and pepper. Shape into 4 equal-size patties.

In the reserved skillet, heat the EVOO, two turns of the pan, over medium heat. Add the rice cakes and cook for 4 minutes on each side. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving to your pup. Top the people’s portions with sour cream and salsa.

Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles’ Grooming Tips

Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles’ Grooming Tips

We get many questions about grooming Australian Labradoodles and good grooming is very important to the overall health of your Australian Labradoodle puppy or dog.  All groomers are different, so it may take a bit to find one that both you and your Australian Labradoodle are comfortable with.  Below are Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles’ recommended tips.

Choose an established groomer that has been in business for at least two years.  Ask a friend, veterinarian or breeder for a groomer recommendation in your area.

Make an appointment in advance – most good groomers have full schedules and schedule appointments in advance.

Check the surroundings at your groomers – are they organized and clean?   Is the groomer friendly?  Is the groomer knowledgeable and helpful?

Prepare your Australian Labradoodle for their first visit to the groomer by beginning early to gently brush/comb your Australian Labradoodle puppy.  This gets them used to the idea of a brush or comb and prepares you well for a trip to the groomer.

When you take your puppy/dog to the groomer you need to be specific on what you want done.  Specify the coat length that you want on your puppy/dog – i.e. 1 inch, 2 inch, etc.   Do you want nails trimmed?  Ears cleaned?  Be specific.  You may want to take a picture to the groomer of how you would like your dog/puppy to look.

Be on time for your appointment and treat your groomer well.  Pick up your finished groomed Australian Labradoodle on time.

The groomer will be combing/brushing out your Australian Labradoodle dog/puppy – so that when you pick him/her up, they will be most likely be a bit “poofy”.  You may want to spritz a bit of water on your dogs coat after you return home.  This will return the coat back to its normal wave/curl and take out the poofyness.

Your groomer will need to trim nails on your Australian Labradoodle dog/puppy, pluck some hairs from inside the ears, trim between the dogs’ /puppy’s eyes and cut short the hair that is beneath the ears, when the ears are laying flat.

You may also want the coat cut short around the privates on your Australian Labradoodle puppy/dog and also on the underside or stomach.  If  your dog/puppy is active outside, then small sticks/weeds can adhere  in the underside of your Australian Labradoodle dog/puppy’s coat.  With the underside or stomach area trimmed shorter, this prevents sticks/weeds from adhering quite so much.

As far as timing of when you groom your Australian Labradoodle puppy/dog it is up to you.  Usually once every two months is plenty.  An initial visit at around 4 to 6 months of age is a good time to start.  If your puppy is around this age, a good length would be a 1 inch cut puppy cut – this would cut off the older hair on the end of the coat and allow for nice growth of your puppies new coat coming in later on.

Good luck and hope these tips are helpful!

Hi Kim,Chris and Others.

We would like to give you all the best wishes for 2010.

Tess is been doing very well. She is my little sunshine. She is nearly six months old, and weighs about 8 kilograms. She is a lovely dog which loves to cuddle and is friendly to everyone. She is very curious and keeps an eye on everything what is going on. She doesn’t like to go out when its dark and rainy. We’ve been attending a puppy course and she  has learned a lot.  She is an very easy pup.

Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles Discover Water Rover in California

Mollie and Jillian 1.jpg

In September 2009 I had the chance to attend the annual Doodle Romp in Malibu, California. It was so much fun meeting all the doodles and doodle owners that were there. At the romp there were different vendors of products, a dog bakery and even a photographer- one of the products that really caught my eye was the Water Rover.

water_rover

It’s this great portable water bottle for your Australian Labradoodle that you just hook to your belt and carry around. I found it very handy and learned that many of the people at the romp already had been using them, everyone had nothing but great things to say about how useful it was! Of course I had to buy one for myself, for Kim and for our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles Staff- we have all been using them since!

We have enjoyed this product so much that we now carry it in our Manor Lake Dog Boutique for all of our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle friends and families. If you are interested in learning more about the Water Rover check it out in our Boutique, www.manorlakedogboutique.com. -Mollie
