Starbucks and Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

There is no question that Kim and I love our Starbucks coffee! We were so excited to hear that tomorrow April 15, 2010 anyone can bring in a reusable tumbler into Starbucks and they’ll get a free brewed coffee. For the good of the planet, Starbucks is encouraging everyone to switch from paper cups to reusable travel mugs. One day in March thousands of New Yorkers made the switch. Join them now by taking a pledge to do the same. What is also neat is that its not just taking place here in the US it is taking place all over the world! This global movement is taking place in locations around the world including East China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, UK, Ireland, Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico.

There is a quote on Starbucks website that we think is very powerful, “One person can save trees, together we can save forests.” You can be sure that Kim and I will be going tomorrow to help support this awesome movement- hopefully you will too!

Manor Lake Marbles

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

We were so excited to get this email from our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle families who has our own Manor Lake Marbles! He looks wonderful in his picture and we’re glad to hear he’s doing well. Thank you Stephanie!

Mollie & Kim:

As we approach Marble’s one year birthday, we wanted to send you some photos and let you know how much we adore him.  He’s been a great addition to our family.  He’s 17-18” tall at his shoulders.  He loves playing fetch, long walks, sitting with us on the couch, playing with our other dog (Cocoa).  While she can be without him, he hates when she is away (groomer, etc.) and waits for her anxiously at the front door.  He is not a lover of car rides, but at least he no longer throws up as he did for the first 6 months.  He is smart and easy to train (when we try).  He has the cutest run, he tends to hop with his back legs like bunny.

Thanks, Stefanie, Renee and Sophie

Manor Lake Wrigley in Southern California

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Thank you Janna and Andy for this nice note and pictures of Wrigley, he looks great! Manor Lake Wrigley is a miniature red Australian Labradoodle.

Hi Kim & Mollie,

Wrigley is now 5.5 months old and such a sweetheart! He is 13 lbs and his growth seems to finally be slowing down.

He is from the October bunch of Lil Red and Scully. His temperment is wonderful, he loves children and is playful, friendly, and happy. He recently graduated from Puppy Kindergarten and just started Beginners Obedience class this evening. He was a snap to house train and very quick with all commands so far (with a few exceptions that we attribute to puppyhood). We think Wrigley has a pretty good life in Southern California. We have attached a few photos for you. Thank you so much for providing us with our first puppy! He is simply THE BEST. We love him more than we could have ever imagined.

“People” food you can share with your Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

One of our favorite dog magazines is Modern Dog- they post a variety of insightful articles on training, health, and events. We were going over their website today and saw this article, thought our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle puppy/dog families might find it interesting! After reading this I shared a little bit of my pineapple with Amelia!

10 More “People” Food for Dogs
Food you can share with your dog
By By Laura Scott and Elizabeth Pask

Are you looking for more ways to add a bit of excitement to your dog’s mealtime? Or are you looking for new ideas for tasty treats? Well look no further! Here are ten more people foods that will give you just what you’re looking for and will help boost your dog’s nutrition.

1. Rice is good to feed when your dog has an upset tummy and needs a bland meal. There are a variety of different types of rice. Brown rice is a little higher in protein and a little lower in fat when compared to white rice. White or instant rice is an easily digestible carbohydrate which makes it a good source of energy when your dog has an upset tummy or if you are feeding an older dog.

2. Squash, like pumpkin, can be added to bulk up his stool and is a good source of betacarotene (provitamin A). Hint: remove the seeds and then slice and freeze the squash to make it a fun, crunchy snack for your dog.

3. Popcorn that has been air popped with no butter or salt is a great lowcalorie treat for your dog. Popcorn contains potassium as well as the bone-building minerals phosphorous, magnesium, and calcium. So snuggle up and share that popcorn with your furry friend next time you watch a movie.

4. Lean meat (chicken, beef, or pork) with no visible fat and no added sauces or seasonings can be a great training treat or can add a bit of good-quality extra protein to your dog’s diet. Lean meat is an excellent, balanced source of amino acids, the building blocks of muscle in your dog’s body. Meat is also a great source of B vitamins (Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Pyridoxine, and Cobalamine). These vitamins are involved in energy metabolism in the body.

5. Liver is available freeze-dried in most pet stores and it is a great training treat. You can also buy it fresh in the grocery store to feed at home. Fresh liver can be cooked and then baked to make your own liver treats. Liver is an excellent source of B vitamins (Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, and Folic acid), Vitamin A, and Vitamin K. It is also a great source of iron. Warning: Too much liver may be toxic to dogs because of its high vitamin A content. Therefore, it is best to limit the amount of liver fed to your dog to not more than 1 g of fresh liver/Kg body weight per day.

6. Pineapple can be a special treat for your dog. Pineapple contains mostly sugar but it also contains calcium and potassium. Frozen pineapple can be a fun summer treat for your dog.

7. Cottage cheese is high in protein and calcium and it’s fairly bland, so it can be a good way to add some extra protein to your dog’s diet. Cottage cheese is a dairy product and some dogs don’t do well with dairy, so make sure you start with just a small amount.

8. Parsley has long been thought to improve doggie breath, so next time you are baking treats for your dog, try adding a few tablespoons of chopped parsley for added flavour and colour. Parsley can also be a good source of calcium, potassium, and beta-carotene.

9. Peanut butter is a healthy, high-protein treat for dogs. Try smearing some inside or on one of your dog’s toys, or let him lick out the container when it’s almost finished.

10. Peas can be added right to your dog’s food, frozen or thawed. Peas are a good source of the B vitamin Thiamin, phosphorous, and potassium.

*The foods listed above should be fed as an extra treat in addition to or as part of a balanced diet. Extra foods shouldn’t make up more than 25 percent of your dog’s diet. Just be sure to try out new foods one at a time until you’re certain that they don’t upset your dog’s stomach.

Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle Testimonial

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

We just received this nice note and pictures from one of our Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle families- thank you Jennifer! We always enjoy and appreciate updates!

Greetings Manor Lake Labradoodles,

Well, Cruiser has just had his 2yr birthday (litter born on March 1st, 2008).  He is an absolute joy!!  I am stopped everywhere i go with people in amazement; asking what is his breed .  People just cant get over how soft he is.  He has turned into quite the “Frisbee dog” and usually has a crowd of people  at the park watching him at play.  He is my little “Love Bug”.  Cruiser has the best temperament and a very loving disposition.  My family and friends just adore him as he never fails to entertain and amuse.  He started out as a dark chocolate coloring but to my surprise he has lightened up and looks very much like his fathers (Cloud Catcher) coloring.  Though he is very tall, thick with fur, and a standard size he has topped out at 43lbs- which i find to be perfect for me to handle.  He has been professionally trained as a seeing eye dog (though not a working dog) and the trainer was amazed on how quickly he picked up on the commands- graduating a week early!!

I am so grateful for finding Manor Lake Australian Labradoodles and having this wonderful “little character” in my life!!!
