Tips for Potty Training your New Puppy

We all know it can be a bit of a process to fully potty train your new pup, but with patience, praise and positive reinforcment you and your puppy will be well on your way to good potty training. We have gathered four very essential tips to speed up and enforce potty training with your new puppy. Enjoy!

Patience is very important to hold on to. Every puppy is going to have accidents, just like a new born baby it will take some time for your new puppy to fully understand what an acceptable behavior is.

Be sure to praise good behavior. This part of the potty training process cannot be emphasized enough– if they go potty outside or on a potty pad be sure to praise them immediately. Through positive reinforcement your developing puppy will be able to have a better understanding of what is expected of them.

Do not punish your puppy unless you directly saw them doing something wrong. If your come across an accident your puppy left and you did not see them do it, simply clean it up and bring your puppy outside.

Consistency is our final and equally important potty training tip. Devepop a regular schedule in which you will take your puppy outside to go to the bathroom such as, when theywake up from a nap, after they eat and when you notice them sniffing around.

Six Summer Safety Tips for your Australian Labradoodle

With the heat this summer its always important to keep puppy practices safe for your pooch. Here are six of the top summer safety tips we have compiled for you and your furry companion to apply to your every summer day behaviors. Enjoy!

One, if you and your canine friend are headed to the beach on a warm day remember to not let your dog run right into the water unless they are familiar with swimming. If your pooch is familiar with swimming be sure to look out for strong tides– they can be dangerous for even the most expert dog paddlers.

Two, we thought this one was a gimme but ALWAYS be sure to have access to fresh water for your pup.

Three, try to avoid strenuous exercise on particularly hot days– it can lead to heat exhaustion.

Four, NEVER leave your furry pal in an unattended parked car. If the temperature outside is 80 degrees Fahrenheit the inside of your car can heat up to about 120 degrees.

Five, pups with short and or light colored hair can easily burn in the sunshine so be sure to apply sunscreen on their ears and nose at least 30 minutes before heading out into the sun for an extended period of time.

Six, if you are headed to the beach on a hot and sunny day take care to not let your pup drink the salt water– the salt can upset their tummies.

Manor Lake Hogan in Calabasas, CA

Hi Kim/Mollie-


Hogan has been such a wonderful puppy!!! He is sweet and such a good listener! He welcome our guests with a quick sniff and lots of love, and has been a wonderful addition to our family. We talked about him so much that my husband’s brother also has a Manor Lake Labradoodle now! So, we have a “cousin” close by for Hogan to play with!!!

Hogan has a girlfriend! She is also a Labradoodle and they play together all the time. He is very social with other dogs as well, and has lots of neighborhood “friends.” All the kids love to pet him and they all think he is so soft! I even had one little girl ask if he was a bear- but that was before he got his summer haircut

Thanks again- we LOVE him so so much! I have attached a recent photo of him at his “perch” – he likes to sit on the front yard grass when the kids get ready to leave for school.

Manor Lake Australian Labradoodle Training for Seizure Detection

Hi Ladies, Holy Cow…look at Emmie’s new babies! I don’t suppose the government would allow me two service dogs????? Dea’gla’n is about half way through his training and awesome in every way. He has alerted several times when I didn’t know a seizure was coming. I know everyone says this…but I REALLY cannot imagine getting through a day without him! If you ever need a recommendation on training your dogs as service dogs, please feel free to give my contact information. Thanks again for an awesome companion!

I just had to let you know how extraordinary your breeding program is. I just ran the Houston Marathon and while alone in my hotel room immediately after, I had a small seizure. Dea’gla’n was playing, but as soon as I seized he stood absolutely still for a few seconds, then ran to me and lay across my chest, then moved to my left side and licked my ear and face until I recovered. I was so stunned at his actions that I forgot to get upset about the seizure!! Since he is only four months old and has had only basic obedience training, I believe this behavior can only be the result of your breeding program. I just can’t express to you what a sense of freedom Dea’gla’n gives me already…thanks!! Kate

Manor Lake’s Veterinarians Listed on Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s Top Vets for 2011

We’re excited and happy for our Veterinarians who were listed on Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s list of Top Vets for 2011!

Our Ophthalmologist  Dr. Terri McCalla of  Bellingham Animal Eye Care was listed.

Three of our doctor’s at Chuckanut Valley Veterinary Clinic were also named on this list, Dr. Greg Ingman, Dr. Matthew Wesley and Dr. Jacob Searle.

We strive to provide the best care for our Australian Labradoodle and are very happy with the veterinarians we use! Congratulations!

Manor Lake Alfred in Chicago, IL

Thank you Jimmy for your kind email and pictures on Alfred! He looks wonderful! Manor Lake Alfred is a chocolate Australian Labradoodle.

Hi Kim/Mollie,

Alfred is doing great. He had his first Chicago exam yesterday and the vet said he’s in great shape. He really is an awesome dog…so well-tempered and loves the attention he gets from everyone. Even as a pup, he walks better on his leash than any other dog I’ve known.

Manor Lake Bailee

Manor Lake Koa at Marymoor Park

Hi Kim,

Just checking in to say hello.  We were down in Redmond at Marymoor Park over the weekend and think we ran into one of Koa’s cousins?…  (Attached is a picture of Koa and Charlie.)  Charlie is 6 months old.  We were thinking he may have been part of a litter just prior to Koa.

We are so happy with Koa.  He is a wonderful loving addition to our family.  He’s so smart.  I put a bell on the door so if I was in the other room he could ring it and I’d know he needed to go outside.  I showed him the bell, told him to “ring the bell” and gave him a treat when the bell made a sound.  We tried it 3 times until I was sure he knew the bell was there.

10 minutes later Koa got up from the living room and I heard the bell ringing.  I gave him a treat and let him outside.  30 minutes later he rang the bell again.  When he got up 45 minutes later and rang the bell, I realized he was training me…  Room service!!!  (We stopped giving him treats for ringing the bell…)

Koa starts obedience training this Friday.  He’s got such a sweet gentle disposition, I’m thinking of getting him certified as a therapy dog.  We’ll keep you posted.

Helping Your New Puppy Settle In

Bringing home a new puppy is exciting for both your family and your new puppy. The first week to ten days are very important in bonding with your puppy and making them feel welcome. Leaving home, their mother and litter mates is a big life change for a puppy but with some patience, time, positive encouragement and lots of love your puppy will fit right in with your routine and family. There are a few simple things you can do to help make your puppy’s transition go smoothly.

-Try to refrain from having a lot of visitors over or overwhelming your puppy with a lot of activity in the first week of arriving.

-Set aside a lot of time to spend with your puppy when they first come home, this is the time where your puppy will bond with you.

-Don’t panic if your puppy’s appetite seems a bit off, this is normal in transitioning into a new home. Offering your puppy some plain canned food is ok too.

-If you have young children make sure to monitor them and your puppy, teaching children how to hold a puppy is also important, their bottom should always be supported.

-Consistency is key, this applies always, being consistent with your puppy is crucial in helping them settle in and figure out your routine.

-Pick a place for your puppy to sleep at night, there really isn’t a right answer here, you can have your puppy sleep in your room with you, in your child’s room or in another room in your home. Picking one place that the puppy can feel is their own is helpful in making them feel secure.

-Finally the most important is giving your puppy lots and lots of love!
