Manor Lake Stella

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Thanks so much Mardy for this great email and beautiful pictures!

Dear Kim & Mollie,

I recently sent you a couple pictures of darling Stella.  We have been away since Stella came, in Washington D.C.  and for two weeks in Canada, so I am so sorry this has taken me a while.  She came with us and we have had a ball with her.  She is an angel.

Stella is totally trained and she almost always sits by the door to tell me.  We gave in and she sleeps with my husband and I all night long, and she waits for me to get up, its hysterical. She’s gaining weight beautifully and is so totally gorgeous.  I don’t know a person that doesn’t want to take her home.  My oldest boy, Andrew, lives in North Carolina now and he wants a Stella himself, so I know he will contact you when he can take on a dog.

Thank you again for this most precious gift.  I will send you more pictures soon.  These are from my phone, my camera is in the lake in Canada!!

Mardy

P.S.  Stella loves water!! She’s not swimming yet but she got in!

Manor Lake Bakerloo

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Kim and Mollie,

We want to write and thank the staff of Manor Lake for our wonderful dog, Bakerloo. Not only is he gorgeous to look at but more importantly he has the most amazing temperament. We know that the early work that Manor Lake must have done in socialization and enrichment is absolutely paying off. Bakerloo is doing beautifully with all his training and we cannot walk far without people stopping on the street or from their cars to admire both his looks and lovely manners which are truly incredible for such a young pup. We also appreciate what a fabulous traveller he has been from the start which has allowed us to take him on lots of summer adventures already.

What a handsome boy Manor Lake Louie is! Thank you Colleen for this photo!

Manor Lake Bailey

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Suzanne and Yale- thank you so much for your note and update on Bailey, what a beautiful girl she has become!
Hi Kim:

It’s hard to believe that our little girl turned one today! She is such a blessing to us all. Her temperment is just lovely and she is adored by all the kids and adults in our neighborhood. Everyone always comments on what a well behaved girl she is. She is extremely smart (must be her breeding), affectionate and playful.
One of her favorite activites is to play with one of the cats (Sophie), who doesn’t like to play ‘Bailey style’ whereas our other cat, Murphy, just ignores what she’s doing.  It’s so funny to watch this.
Our children just love her to bits…every morning, she goes into their rooms and wakes them up for school with loving licks on their faces, and every night, she gives them kisses again. We are just thrilled to have her!
She is 34lbs and around 18″ high. She was from the litter of Stella & Ty. We love these pictures. One we call “Clifford”, because she looks like a giant.
Wishing you and Molly well. We’ll stay in touch on our end.
Kindest regards~
Suzanne & Yale

Manor Lake Mochi

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Thank you Stacy and Dan for this kind note and for the awesome photos of Mochi! He looks great.

Dear Kim and Mollie:

We are truly blessed that we have such a wonderful dog in Mochi.  He is already part of the family as you can see.  He lays around like he has been here forever.  He is already ringing the bells when he wants to go outside.  He carries his leash proudly when he is on a walk.  He is still using his sharp little puppy teeth — but we just give him a Flossie and he is satisfied.  He goes into his “den”/kennel when we need him too without complaint.  He is truly a lover and just wants to relax in someone’s arms.  He has been in the pool, sort of reluctantly, but he knows how to use the steps to get out.  He tolerates his bath, once he figures out that I will not let him out.  The vet saw him the other day and said he looked great!  He is a Momma’s pup right now and always looks for me when I am gone!  He is very handsome, and he likes when people tell him so — and believe me, everyone does! Thank you so much for making this match!  We love him!

Dehydration and Water Needs in Dogs

Dehydration is a lack of water in the body, and can cause serious complications for pets and people alike. Water is essential to all living beings, including dogs, who depend on proper daily fluid intake to maintain appropriate health. It makes up 80 percent of your dog’s body, and dissolves natural and unnatural substances as well as serves as the root of all his biological processes, including circulation, digestion and waste removal.

What Causes Dehydration in Dogs?

Dehydration occurs when fluid levels drop to less than normal. This is due to either reduced water intake or increased fluid loss. Fluid loss can be due to overheating in hot weather or a bout of vomiting or diarrhea, especially in puppies.

What Are the General Symptoms of Dehydration in Dogs?

  • Sunken eyes
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Depression

What Should I Do If I Think My Dog Is Dehydrated?

Dehydration may indicate a serious underlying problem. If you suspect that your dog is dehydrated, take him to a veterinarian immediately. You may be able to detect dehydration at home by gently lifting the skin on the back of your dog’s neck or between the shoulder blades-unless your dog is seriously overweight or very shin, it should immediately return to a normal position. If he is lacking in fluids, the lifted skin may not quickly return to normal. Often, however, the signs of dehydration are not obvious, and only a veterinarian can provide proper diagnosis and treatment.

Are Certain Dogs Prone to Dehydration?

Dogs most at risk for dehydration are those who suffer from various illnesses such as kidney disorders, cancer and infectious disease. Elderly dogs and pregnant or nursing dogs may be prone to dehydration, as well as diabetic dogs whose condition is not regularly monitored.

How Is Dehydration Treated?

A veterinarian will administer intravenous or subcutaneous fluids, and run additional tests, if necessary, to determine the underlying cause of the condition.

How Can I Prevent Dehydration?

  • Provide clean water at all times, and change it frequently to ensure freshness. Also, don’t forget to wash your pet’s water bowl every day to prevent bacteria from forming.
  • Monitor your dog’s water intake. Generally, a dog needs at least one ounce of water for each pound of body weight per day. If your dog is not drinking an adequate amount of water, seek veterinary advice. Monitoring water intake is especially important if he’s recovering from diarrhea, vomiting or other illnesses.
  • Purchase a water bowl with a weighted bottom to prevent your dog from knocking it over.
  • Bring extra water when you’re traveling or exercising with your dog.
  • If you notice your pet is drinking less than usual, check his mouth for sores or other foreign objects, such as burrs or sticks.
  • Avoid chaining a dog outside, since he may get tangled up, preventing him from accessing his water bowl.
  • Keep your toilet lid closed to interrupt your dog’s efforts to turn the bowl, which can be a source of bacteria, into a water fountain.
